The 2015 State Team Qualifying Tournament (STQT) is about to start at Lake Oahe, SD.  BASS Nation anglers from across Colorado are at the Lake for a few days of pre-fishing.  The three day tournament is from June 10-12.  The Colorado BASS Nation event will determine a Colorado State Team to attend the next BASS Nation Western Divisional and compete for a chance to earn a spot at the Bassmasters Classic.

Day One of competition fishing is about to get started and the anglers are heading in to attend the pre-tournament registration meeting tonight.  This is the first time that the Colorado BASS Nation has visited Lake Oahe for one of its “Destination” tournaments.  Lake Oahe has been talked about for several years now as reports tell of a lot of unmolested bass that are ripe for the catching.

A few anglers have been sending in pictures and according to State President Audrey McKinney there a lot of fish being caught in the 2-3 pound range.  She says, “It seems that everyone is catching fish,” and that some kicker fish will be needed to move up in this tournament.  Tonight is the registration meeting before the first competition day.

Bass are not the only predators prowling this massive Missouri River impoundment.  So far there are more pictures being sent in of northern pike than there are of Lake Oahe smallmouth.  But then some cagy competitors are likely keeping their catches quiet as the weights are predicted to be very close this year.

This tournament will have a self-imposed 12-inch minimum length limit and a big, long lake to search out those limits.  But the anglers have to be careful out there as two boats are already reported to have had lower unit damage during practice days.

Audrey also wanted to thank a few who volunteered to attend as observers at this year’s tournament, including Colorado High School angler Colton Colwell, who is traveling with dad, Jeff Colwell, and there’s at least one extra Hofstetter running around this week.  Thanks, guys!

Stay posted as we will update the standings and post more pictures as they become available.
